This depends on the student‘s needs and goals. We would begin with a short consultation to establish the objectives of our tutoring time, and approximately how many sessions we mutually envision. Some students need only 2 or 3 sessions while others are working on long-term writing goals.
You’ll definitely need the device on which you wish to type, and ideally a Google account so that we can work together in Google Docs. You‘ll also need a pen, some paper, and a highlighter. I will provide any other materials needed. Depending on the goals of our tutoring, you may also need to arrive with drafts or planned work, but this will be established in our consultation.
It’s essential that students and families understand and acknowledge that my role as tutor is to assist the student in developing writing. It is unethical for me to compose any of the writing myself or to serve as a student‘s personal editor. I guide and facilitate. I give feedback. The student must be the composer of the writing.
